November 27th, 2013 is marked by many as the day Dubai fully recovered from the global financial crisis that hit most of the world in 2008. It is on that day that Dubai rose again with a well-earned trust of the international community to host the World Expo 2020.
Dubai successfully won the bid to host the mega event against prominent world cities of Izmir, Turkey; Sao Paulo, Brazil and Ekaterinburg, Russia with a total of 116 votes.
For its bid to host the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, the UAE has selected the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.”
Furthermore, a World Expo in Dubai in 2020 will be the first to be held in the MENASA (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia) region. Dubai Expo 2020 will be a platform for connectivity to help pioneer new partnerships for growth and sustainability for the future.
It is expected that this grand achievement, which will be held over a period of six months, will help create more than 280,000 new jobs and sustain around 1,400,000 jobs across the wider MENASA region between 2013 and 2021. The event is set to attract some 25 million visitors to Dubai, approximately 70% of them from outside of the UAE.
Dubai promises to dazzle the world with it will offer during the event. “We renew our promise to astonish the world in 2020,” he said, adding that “Dubai Expo 2020 will breathe new life into the ancient role of the Middle East as a melting pot for cultures and creativity,” UAE PM and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rahisd Al Maktoum said.
This very day, Dubai is renowned for bring an international destination where 200 nationalities live, work and interact.
Analysts see that holding World Expo 2020 in Dubai will have a positive effect not only on the emirate, but on the whole region. The event is expected to generate AED139 billion in revenues.
